Immigrants want to come to the US for a better life. According to a 2009 Pew Research article, “ Most believe life is better in the United States. Close to six-in-ten (57%) say that people who move from Mexico enjoy a better life in the U.S., up from 51% in 2007. And the vast majority of those who are in regular contact with friends and relatives living in the U.S. say those friends and relatives have largely achieved their goals.”
Politicians claims about immigration are false. Politicians believe undocumented immigrants are illegal. Jose Vargas,a former Washington Post reporter, says that, “ It’s actually legally inaccurate to refer somebody as an illegal, because to be in this country without papers is a civil offense, not a criminal one,” Sen. Lindsey Graham claimed that immigrants do not pay taxes saying that, “This is a taxpayer fraud issue. You’re not advancing the cause of immigration reform by allowing $19 billion to be stolen from the Treasury.” DoSomething.Org shows , however, that this claim is false saying, “ Illegal aliens contribute about as much to the public coffers in taxes as they receive in benefits. New data suggests the undocumented pay about 46% as much in taxes as do natives, but use about 45% as much in services. A poll of the most respected economists found a consensus that both legal and illegal immigrants are beneficial economically.”
According to the research illegal as well as legal immigrants that come to the US are here looking for a better life. The claims that illegal immigrants do not pay taxes are false. Illegal immigrants pay taxes just as much as their legal counterparts and they also benefit the country economically. Immigrants that come to this country, whether legally or illegally, benefit themselves as well as the country as a whole.
